Rising Star of 2020
Sumita Singh, who graduated from the NESCOT has been announced as one of the winners of the prestigious Institute of Osteopathy’s (iO) Rising Stars award for 2020.
Each year the Higher Educational Institutions put forward their top osteopathy graduate to receive the prestigious ‘Institute of Osteopathy Rising Star Award’.
This is a particularly special category that celebrates the best of the new UK talent from the 2020 graduating year and rewards the osteopaths of tomorrow for their hard work and commitment to the pursuit of their osteopathic development for the benefit of patient care.
The award was presented at the Institute’s Annual General Meeting in front of a virtual audience comprising of osteopaths young and old, representing the breadth of the profession.
Maurice Cheng, iO Chief Executive on presenting the award said of Sumita: “Sumita was an extremely reliable and effective student, keen to identify and address any areas she felt less confident in. This included taking up Pilates classes herself to improve her understanding of exercise rehabilitation despite some trepidation of formal exercise. Sumita’s commitment went beyond her studies, working on college committees to widen access to higher education, something she is continuing with General Osteopathic Council.”
Sumita said of receiving the award: “I am delighted to have been announced as one of the iO’s Rising Stars of 2020. I would like to thank my teachers and library staff at Nescot. I aim to continue to work within and for the Osteopathic profession and promote diversity at all levels.”

Osteopaths are highly trained healthcare professionals that support and promote the health of people all ages, from babies to the elderly, through the use of manual therapy, exercise and health advice. Osteopaths are regulated by law and recognised as one of the Allied Health Professions by NHS England.
The Institute of Osteopathy (iO) is the professional membership organisation representing over two-thirds of osteopaths in the UK. iO membership affords assurances to the public and patients that its members provide the highest standards of service and care to those in their communities, exceeding the minimum requirements of professional regulation.
