Osteopathy Croydon
Who Needs Osteopathy?
At Croydon Osteopathy clinic, we believe that a healthy human body is a complex maze, an information highway processing the data it receives from its senses at an astonishing speed of thought. Pain, on the other hand, dulls the nervous system, mind and the spirit and can:
- Aggravate hidden conditions
- Worsen existing ailments
- Weaken immunity
Customized Osteopathy
We look forward to discussing what issues you are facing as a daily challenge. Through consultation and a caring approach towards each individual, we aim to help you with your ailment and to restore positivity and vitality in your life.
Cranial Osteopathy
Cranial techniques are safe, gentle, and non-manipulative. They are often used when treating young children and newborn infants. Babies’ skeletons are softer than an adult’s. We will therefore use subtle and gentle techniques such as cranial osteopathy when treating babies. This will involve assessing the flow of the cerebrospinal fluid via manual palpation and working to enhance it.
Soft Tissue Massage and Joint manipulation and/or Mobilization
General osteopathic techniques include manipulations, mobilizations and soft tissue massage. Mobilization is defined as “the application of manual force to the spinal joints within the passive range of joint motion that does not involve thrust” and define manipulation as “the application of high-velocity, low amplitude manual thrusts” and soft tissue massage to include effleurage, petrissage, friction, strain/counter strain and myofascial trigger point release. These are the most common techniques used in osteopathic consultation in the UK.
Exercise Rehabilitation and Kinesio Taping
We prescribe an exercise plan to help you maintain the effects of your osteopathic treatment in between sessions. You will be sent rehabilitation exercises after each visit as appropriate. This will include a video, a write up with images on how to do those exercises. Our osteopaths closely follow the advice of the National Institute of Healthcare and Excellence (NICE) and the latest scientific research. Therefore they are able to advise you on the best course forward to help you with rehabilitation.
As needed we will offer kinesiology taping for you as part of the osteopathic appointment at no additional cost.
Paediatric Osteopathy
Osteopaths are trained to work with babies, newborn infants and children. Our osteopaths have undergone further continuous professional development training in paediatric osteopathy and have undergone enhance DBS checks to enable them to work safety with babies and children. We use gentle techniques such as cranial osteopathy to soothe and relax your baby. We offer a package of manual therapy, healthcare information and self management advice for you and your child.
Ultrasound, Laser and Electro-Therapy
Our therapy centre is fully equipped with ultrasound, radiofrequency, laser, gyratory massager unit, transcutaneous nerve stimulator and electric muscle stimulator. These machines are routinely used for sports injury rehabilitation.
National Institute of Healthcare and Excellence (NICE) recommends TENS for pain relief in conditions such as osteoarthritis and ultrasound for tennis elbow. The low-level laser has been found useful for acute to chronic back pain management and electric muscle stimulator and gyratory massager can be very useful for activation of specific muscle groups. We will discuss with you and if required incorporate these devices as part of your treatment plan.
Dry Needling
Dry Needling is a technique where an acupuncture needling is used to produce local twitch and analgesic response. Research suggests that it reduces central sensitization and helps with acute and chronic conditions alike. It helps and expedites muscle regeneration. We will discuss with the patient and will provide dry needling at no extra cost within your osteopathic treatment as required.
