A ‘hands-on’ approach warrants an improvement in the scope of the treatment seeker, as an osteopath is able to customize a treatment plan for you after your initial check-up, that is tailor-made for you, to increase flexibility and movement across your body.

The techniques used could include

  • gentle tissue massage
  • stretching
  • muscle articulation

What to Expect at Your First Osteopathy Session

When you arrive at Croydon Osteopathy, we begin with a detailed examination of your case and medical history. Please carry any relevant test reports, prescriptions of current medications, and imaging that has been done associated with your presenting problem. Please wear loose comfortable clothes (shorts, sports bra, etc.) in order for us to carry out a full spinal and postural assessment as part of your first visit.

Our osteopaths may begin asking you to do certain movements as part of your assessment in order to ascertain what structures may be causing your pain. They may carry out with consent a series of orthopaedic tests to narrow the diagnosis. In the cases of injury-related treatment, you are advised to refer you to your GP or our scanning facilities for MRI scans, CT scans, ultrasound reports, X-rays, etc.

Your initial consultation may last up to 45 minutes, where we ascertain predisposing and maintaining factors for your present condition, discuss and draw up a tailor-made treatment plan for you. Although each injury is different, typically for acute presentation a series of treatments may be needed at shorter intervals and for chronic conditions, a long-term rehabilitation plan may be required.
